About Readucate
READUCATE is a non-profit Non-Governmental Organisation. It is based on principles that have grown over seven decades during which the renowned pioneer in reading and learning, Rebecca Ostrowiak, developed a holistic, multi-dimensional approach to the teaching of reading. This approach proved so successful with thousands of children and adults of all races and mentalities, that in 1991 the READUCATE TRUST was established with the following mission:

To upgrade literacy amongst disadvantaged
people throughout Southern Africa.

READUCATE is a Co-operating Organisation of the SA National Commission of UNESCO. It was founded in memory of Marion Welchman MBE, a co-founder of the British Dyslexia Association, and Rebecca Ostrowiak: both Dyslexia, Reading and Education pioneers.

READUCATE trains literate adults as instructors who are then equipped to teach others to read and write. Once READUCATE Instructors have completed a course they can teach pre-school, primary and high school pupils and adults. Thus whole school development becomes a reality as many are teaching pupils in schools and their illiterate parents after hours.

READUCATE seeks the partnership of DONORS who can make a meaningful financial contribution by sponsoring READUCATE projects and thereby contributing to a significant aspect of the transformation process in South Africa - the empowerment of its greatest asset - its people.
